Kingsway residents Jean Donnachie and Noreen Real have been crowned Evening Times Scotswomen of the Year 2008.

They received their award in recognition of their hard work, campaigning to stop Home Office dawn raids on their asylum seeker neighbours on the Kingsway Estate.

Thanks to their efforts, and with the help of many others on the estate and across Glasgow, a combination of direct action and relentless campaigning saw the end of Home Office dawn raids at Kingsway and a significant reduction across the city.

To mark their award, and to celebrate the momentous achievements of The Kingsway Amnesty Group, the community held a party in their honour on the 21st of march 2009 at the local bowling club. Congratulations Jean and Noreen!
